cdc to set guidelines on student concussions

Democrats in New Jersey, Mendez, and Passeri, both launched a legislation that passed the House, but stalled in the Senate, which would make the agreements mandatory.
Several states, including New Jersey, have laws requiring doctors to approve the return of students to sports, but Pascrell says guidance is needed across the country for school and youth sports programs.
\"Science may change, but this is not an excuse for not establishing an agreement,\" Pascrell said, referring to different scientific findings about concussion.
\"For our soldiers, we are close to this and we need to be one step closer for our children.
\"Every concussion is brain damage,\" Pascrell stressed, with 41% of student athletes recovering too quickly and sometimes causing serious or even fatal consequences.
CDC will convene a panel of experts to determine the scope of the agreement, review the existing literature, review the scientific status of concussion, and prepare the agreement distribution by the fall of 2014, according to Pascrell
No message was returned to CDC immediately.
According to the State Council national conference, about a dozen states, including New Jersey, have rules on student athlete concussion and brain damage.
Similar measures are being considered in other countries.
The concussion was caused by a violent head impact.

Hamlin said that all student athletes conduct computerized \"impact tests\" on word problems and other questions that test brain function and must be approved by a doctor before starting any exercise.
He said awareness of concussion is now common and the coach told players how to avoid concussion by raising their heads in football matches.
\"This is something that exists throughout the season and our coach has highlighted it,\" Hamlin said . \".
\"If you see a player holding his head down incorrectly, your skin will crawl because that\'s why you have a concussion.
