A magical pill that keeps you healthy without putting up with the pain of going to the gym sounds like the beginning of a hilarious and scary ad.
But scientists are working hard.
According to a study published in the journal Cell Metabolism, they are called \"exercise pills\" and are making some progress.
The study is still in a very preliminary stage, so you may not want to pack your gym clothes yet, but the authors of the study say their findings suggest that, some of the benefits of exercising at least one day may become a reality.
Researchers from the Charles Perkins Center at the University of Sydney, Australia, after a 10-minute high-intensity exercise, performed a human muscle biopsy of four untrained healthy men.
Through careful analysis, they found more than 1,000 different molecular changes in the muscles caused by intense physical activity.
Missouri family planning Jupiter satellite NBA Finals \"this is a major breakthrough, Research author Dr said:\" because it allows scientists to use this information to design a drug that mimics the real beneficial changes caused by the movement. \"
Nolan Hoffman of the Charles Perkins Center and the School of Science said in a statement.
\"The idea is that the more we know about how exercise changes our muscle cells, the more we can imitate it with drugs,\" said Dr. CBS News medical contributor . \"
Holly Phillips explained.
However, there are some important considerations.
The main purpose of the pill is to increase muscle strength and tension, which of course is only one of the many benefits of exercise.
\"Exercise has such a broad effect on our bodies,\" Phillips said . \".
\"We know mentally,inflammatory.
It affects not only the muscle cells themselves, but also our heart and lungs, the whole system.
\"In other words, this pill is not a real substitute for exercise.
Nevertheless, if it achieves results, this pill may have some significant health benefits for some people, especially for those who cannot exercise, including stroke patients, people with spinal cord injury and those who are restricted to wheelchairs.
\"It does save lives for them to maintain muscle tension, but they can\'t do physical exercises.
So they will be the first target and the first group to really benefit from this pill, \"Phillips said.
In another paper published this month in the journal Pharmacology science trends, the researchers reviewed several exercise pills developed by laboratories that are being tested on animals.
\"We are in the early stages of this exciting new field,\" said Ismail Lach, research author of the Department of Pharmacology and therapy at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, in a statement.
\"Further development of the combined action of the exercise pill may be more effective than a single compound.
We just don\'t know anything about them for a long time.
