Spoiler alert: Niva Retimanu is at the end. Don\'t be sad.
Her life is not the end.
This is a journey.
Hamburg station.
Ten years ago, Retimanu sat on the sofa and realized that she could not tie her shoelaces because her stomach was blocking the way.
She wrote in her new book: \"That\'s my real moment . \"
Reti Manu is in the marathon today.
Okay, sometimes she misses the official clip. off time.
Sometimes she\'s really at the end.
But she\'s a runner.
If you told her ten years ago, she would fall off the bar stool and laugh.
Listen to her before you see her.
Big earrings in Retimanu ,(her words)
More space.
Radio listeners across the country know his name, but his face doesn\'t.
It takes some persuasion to put it on the cover of a book.
\"What if no one bought it and I ended up being put in a cheap bin for $1. 50?
Oh, it\'s a shame how can I lift my head to Newstalk ZB?
All the owners wrote books!
Then, she said, she thought, \"Niva, you shallow guy!
Because I\'m a realist.
If anyone wants to write a book, I will tick all the boxes.
Brown, big, loud
Mouth with drinking problems, depressed, orphanwoe is me -
But I know my life will be better.
\"Leading from behind is to be better, healthier and stronger --and happier.

I cry inside.
This is the only time I regret it.
There are already teams of runners here.

In Queenstown, a storm ripped the course and the runners were pulled down.
Retimanu constant, hot plate, final participation across the line, formal cut-off with a seven-second standbyoff.
Who should read this book?
\"Anyone who wants to run.
But if I\'m honest, what I really want to read is that anyone sitting on a couch with a bag of potato chips in his hand, weighing more than 100 kg, would think \'oh, marathon, 42 km, no way, because that\'s what I think. \" The 48-year-
It looks like at least five years younger than her old man is sitting in court in the iHeart Radio lounge, just downstairs where her Newstalk ZB news reader works. No coffee (
\"Thank you, I have eaten twice! \")
Just a boxed salad later.
The moment on the sofa?
\"I am denying it.
I know my weight will increase, but I don\'t know how much weight will increase or how bad it will be.
Well, I think, I have to look in the mirror now.
What size do I wear?
The weight of your chin has increased, but you don\'t actually know. . .
\"She cried that day.
Then she went to a consultant and cried again.
\"I can\'t stop,\" she wrote . \".
\"Nothing makes sense when you try to talk, it\'s a terrible cry.
\"Retimanu was finally saddened.
When her parents met on a boat from Samoa to Auckland, it was 1960.
Two years later, they got married and moved to Invercargill, where her father works at the Ocean Beach freezer near Bluff.
They raised four children in the southernmost city, nearly 1200 km kilometers from the country\'s main Pacific island.
The funds are tight, the church is important, and education is important.
\"This is dad\'s legacy, his parting gift,\" Retimanu said . \".
\"He never wanted to see his children having to work in cold engineering.
Her father died of cancer in 1990.
Ten years later, her mother died of a heart attack.
Retimanu 32.
She is also about to find out that she was born with a kidney, two uterus and an abnormal bladder, which means she goes to the toilet a lot.
\"I continue my bad habits as I process all this information.
Eat, drink, smoke, party.
When I look back now, I get frustrated after my diagnosis.
Two people I want to talk. my parents -were gone.
\"I felt like I was robbed.
I am still mourning, I have not dealt.
I did not deal with their death, nor did I give myself a sad process.
What I did was drink my own wine foolishly, go to the party and turn it off.
\"Everyone ends up having a different motivation from the couch.
Retimanu is at the bottom and ready to change but she has extra motivation.
As a Samoan woman working in the news media, she is not only aware of the statistics --
She did read aloud in an hour.
She is not alone.
\"There\'s a group of Pacific women --
We are friends. we are all at the same age. we are all in the media.
We meet once a month.
It\'s always around the food, always in my place.
\"There will be cream puffs, I will eat KFC, the table will groan, I will say \'Yeah, what about her?
She\'s too fat now, and there\'s a chicken leg in my belly, that\'s, \"grab her, she\'s too fat,\" and I\'ll say, \"well --Girlfriend!
Then the others will eat half a cake. . .
\"They know, deep down inside,\" Retimanu said.
\"You don\'t have to be a rocket scientist to know the Pacific and gross profit statistics, but for these girls we all know.
They look smart. They are obviously leaders. . .
We just think we have to join and we have to be role models.
Take a walk on Saturday. Boot camps.
In the end, the coach of the clinic and GetRunning, Gaz Brown, is training retired colleague Kerre McIvor (nee Woodham)
Three marathons
This is McIvor\'s book, the short fat chick of the marathon runner, which was originally inspired by Retimanu to set her website on long
Distance discipline.
\"The marathon gave me a goal I could fight.
When I was training for the marathon, I was disciplined and very engaged. I love that.
I like to run in the fresh air outside.
I was never a treadmill.
\"At GetRunning, she was inspired by a common goal,\" she said.
\"I might be sitting next to the chairman of Air New Zealand,
But we are all the same. we are equal in training.
\"It took a while for Retimanu to get into that top space.
She recalled her first walk on Saturday morning.
The regular sports gear didn\'t fit her, so she went to the warehouse and wore extra black clothing
Big, men\'s sportswear and T-shirtsshirts.
\"I may look like a thief, but I know Blake is losing weight.
\"In the parking lot in the panmurray basin, she looked out of the window.
\"I can\'t see anyone obese.
Then she started.
\"I started sweating like a bush pig.
My breathing is getting hard.
I breathe so much.
Flippin\' heck, the last 20 years of smoking really came back to bite my ass.
I have tasted how incompetent I am.
I see clearly how long the road ahead of me is. It sucked.
\"Today, Retimanu has shrunk by 31 kg and there is a clear definition of the waist and the various muscle groups.
Her eyes are clear.
She has only one chin.
\"You have to put yourself first,\" she said . \".
\"When I was in training camp, you had women of all shapes, sizes and ages.
They would say \"I\'m here for my kids\" or \"I\'m fat and I want to look good for my husband \".
\"You must do it for you.
When it becomes a way of life.
This story must be sustainable for the rest of my life.
I want to be 70.
But do I want to run super? quick four-
Minutes kilometers? No!
\"In fact, she says it\'s annoying when people ask her about her running time (
About three hours longer than four hours.
Marathon women 44 hours on average).
\"It\'s really annoying --
What is your time, what is your time-
But, you know, I\'m shocked and I don\'t care.
\"It\'s not the finishing touches that she cares about.
\"It really annoys me.
If I get to 35 or 36 kilometres, just feel \"it\'s too hard \".
I think this is a good example of my mental resilience.
\"She went to a training session on the first morning and it was still dark.
\"I have never seen so many Leka in such a small space,\" she wrote . \".
\"I keep telling myself, \'I won\'t compete with these runners.
I\'m competing with myself.
Shut up now, stay focused and don\'t feel bad about yourself. \" Hill runs. Interval runs. Five-kilometre runs.
They were divided into several groups.
Retimanu is the execution of the team, last and slowestpaced.
\"This is a small team. Just me. By myself. And I loved it!
A change is recorded in this book.
Learn big things like cooking, quitting smoking, reducing the occasional glass of red wine, sleeping more, consulting and coping with stress.
Something bigger.
Happy running with disabled athletes from Achilles, New Zealand.
All of this is the foundation of the marathon.
She did six now.
New York will be her first, but on 2012 she received a phone call from a press spokesman, journalist ZB, confirming what the New Zealand contingent was most concerned about --
The event was canceled due to Hurricane Sandy.
They retired to an Irish bar.
Retimanu starts with the cosmopolitan cocktail and ends the night with a mini handbag full
Hamburgers and fried fish.
When the fog dispersed, she realized that a month later, she also promised to participate in the Marburg marathon.
Maybe, she now thinks, it should.
Her first marathon was conquered at home.
When does Retimanu believe she is a marathon runner?
Officially, it was after the Marlborough incident that she won her first medal.
But maybe the seeds were planted a few weeks ago.
In New York, Retimanu is on one side.
Travel to Los Angeles with friends.
They just visited Warner Bros. studio and found Australian Broadcasting Company lov during the filming break.
\"Andrea and I ran over,\" Retimanu wrote . \".
\"I said, \'We are from New Zealand.
We went to New York for the marathon.
But this did not happen.
\"Last week, she posed for a photo at Newstalk ZB studio, thinking about her memory.
He said, really?
Are you running a marathon?
I thought, \'Did he say that because he looked me up and down and said, \'this heavy bitch \'?
\"I looked at him and I thought, \'OV, you\'re smaller than Mike Hosking.
I can catch you, wrestle with you and knock you down.
So this is in my mind.
But I think, yes. I am a runner\'.
